In 1965, Whistler added a 4 person gondola, began construction on a lodge, and cut several runs to officially open for skiing in 1966. Before its development, future developers placed a bid to the International Olympic Committee in hopes of the new resort hosting the Olympic games. After being denied 3 times, Whistler & Blackcomb finally became the host of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games almost 50 years after its first bid.
Whistler is famous for its après ski and some favorite watering holes include Tapley's Pub, The Dubh Linh Gate, The Garibaldi Lift Company and The Longhorn Saloon. The nightlife is vibrant and those looking to party into the early hours should try Tommy Africa's, Buffalo Bill's, Garfinkel's or The Savage Beagle.
